Teo in Singapore - Thoughts on Ponti

Going through the reviews of Ponti on Goodreads was something that I had not expected. I dont get people, this was a great book; the awkward, bumbling adolescent protagonist and her bitter, unsatisfactory life, always on the cusp of turning for better but never quite there is always a fun read. 

Ok so you didnt like Teo's writing style. It lacked "structure" (I dont know what that means), there was no hero's journey and not many romantic expression I can think of in the book. I am assuming the people who were spamming all those 2 stars ( and the 1 stars) also have nothing but mean things to say about other books that echo similar themes, namely, my dearest, The catcher in the Rye. Anybody who feels Holden is a dramatic, good for nothing person may enjoy the gift of my displeasure of their opinon and tastes. 

"You just like miserable stories with people suffering in it forever"

Thats totally not true. The only miserable people I know of are all the reviewers who thought Ponti deserved a 1 star (2% of them all) and a 2 stars( 13%! Seriously?). I probably have a lower opinion of those who have a 3 star, you know they simply were either

a) too lazy to read the whole book through to the end and have an opinion on it, or maybe they did read it through but their empathy is too dull to have a colorful thought about it

b) they took the easy option safe of 3 stars and thus spared themself the trouble of sticking to their actual opinions.

I dont think Ponti is a book full of sad characters who suffer without an end in sight. There were some good things that happen to our dear MC, which might not be the grand turn-around you might be expecting, but its certainly not the shitty end our 2 and 1 star giving friends from Goodreads were bemoaning about.

The terribly formatted photo of the cute little house the in the poster picture that I stole from a rental home website is what I imagine the house where Ponti lived, except hers was much worse as she describes it.
